The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has expanded its presence in the Ahafo Region with the opening of a new Quality Control Office in Bechem, a move expected to strengthen cocoa quality assurance and support farmers in the area.
Speaking at the inauguration, Tano South Municipal Chief Executive, Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, described the facility as a major step towards improving the cocoa sector in the municipality. He encouraged cocoa farmers to make full use of the office to enhance the quality and market value of their produce.
Mr Frimpong also used the occasion to reaffirm the Municipal Security Committee’s commitment to combating cocoa smuggling, warning individuals engaged in the illegal trade to desist or face legal consequences.
According to him, security agencies have intensified surveillance and enforcement measures to protect the cocoa industry and ensure that farmers and the country derive maximum benefit from cocoa production.
The new office is expected to improve quality control processes, facilitate access to services for cocoa farmers, and contribute to maintaining Ghana’s reputation for producing high-quality cocoa beans.
Representing the traditional authority, Nana Addai Asubonteng, Ankobeahene of the Bechem Traditional Area, welcomed the establishment of the office and commended the government for the initiative.
He expressed confidence that the facility would boost cocoa production, improve bean quality, and ultimately enhance the livelihoods of farmers across the municipality.
The opening of the office forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s cocoa value chain while addressing challenges such as smuggling and quality assurance.
