The Methodist Church Ghana has challenged 90 newly ordained ministers to uphold the highest standards of Christian leadership by demonstrating integrity, humility and unwavering commitment to their calling.
The ministers, made up of 81 men and nine women, were commissioned into probationary ministry during an ordination ceremony where they received clerical collars, Bibles and certificates as symbols of their dedication to serving God and the Church.
Delivering the charge, the Most Reverend Professor J. Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, reminded the newly ordained ministers that ministry is a lifelong journey that demands spiritual growth, faithfulness and obedience to God.
Speaking on the theme, “Let all my fruits be found of thee: Ministry and Fruit,” he urged them to focus on producing lasting spiritual fruit through exemplary conduct and faithful service.
According to the Presiding Bishop, the effectiveness of a minister is not measured solely by preaching but also by the quality of character demonstrated in daily life.
He encouraged the ministers to become role models within their congregations and communities by reflecting Christian values in their words, actions and decisions.
Most Rev. Asamoah-Gyadu cautioned them against engaging in falsehood, empty rhetoric and behaviours that could compromise their credibility and undermine the mission of the Church.
He also underscored the importance of relying on the gifts and guidance of the Holy Spirit, stressing that spiritual empowerment remains essential for impactful ministry.
The Presiding Bishop further challenged the ministers to be committed to evangelism, discipleship and pastoral care, urging them to nurture believers with compassion and dedication.
He reminded them that ministry is fundamentally about serving others and helping people grow in their relationship with God.
Beyond their pastoral responsibilities, the newly ordained ministers were encouraged to prioritise their families and maintain healthy relationships with their spouses, noting that strong family foundations contribute significantly to effective ministry.
Most Rev. Asamoah-Gyadu called on the ministers to embrace sacrifice, generosity and selfless service, adding that true Christian leadership is demonstrated through a willingness to invest time, talents and resources in the advancement of God’s kingdom.
He concluded by encouraging them to remain connected to Christ and guided by the Holy Spirit throughout their ministry, praying for divine wisdom, strength and favour as they begin their assignments in circuits across the country.
The commissioning marks a significant milestone in the lives of the ministers as they embark on the next phase of their spiritual journey and service within the Methodist Church Ghana.
