Sports broadcaster and General Manager for Sports at Media General, Michael Oti Adjei, has pushed back against growing criticism of the Black Stars, arguing that Ghana’s current national team is far stronger than many observers suggest.
Speaking on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV, Oti Adjei dismissed claims that the current squad is the weakest Black Stars team in recent history, insisting that the side possesses enough talent and experience to compete at the highest level.
According to him, a significant number of players in the current squad have been part of the national setup since 2022, giving the team valuable international exposure and continuity.
“A lot of these players made their debuts in 2022 and have carried that experience into the current team,” he explained.
While acknowledging concerns about the absence of influential figures such as Mohammed Kudus, Oti Adjei maintained that the squad remains competitive and should not be underestimated.
He noted, however, that some players who emerged with promise during the 2022 cycle have not developed as expected, which has affected perceptions of the team’s overall strength.
Despite those challenges, he expressed confidence in the Black Stars’ ability to compete against top opposition.
“I think this team should have enough personnel to give any team a good run for their money,” he stated.
Oti Adjei also reflected on Ghana’s celebrated 2010 World Cup squad, describing it as one of the country’s strongest teams due to its successful blend of experienced stars and emerging talents.
He suggested that while the current generation may not yet have reached those heights, it still possesses the quality needed to make a meaningful impact on the international stage.
His comments come amid ongoing debates about the Black Stars’ prospects and whether the current crop of players can match the achievements of previous generations that brought Ghana significant success in global competitions.
