Football fans in the Keta Municipality are throwing their support behind the Black Stars ahead of Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L showdown against England, expressing confidence that the team can upset one of the tournament favourites.
With both Ghana and England entering Tuesday’s encounter on the back of opening-match victories, supporters believe the Black Stars have a realistic chance of securing a positive result despite the quality and pedigree of their opponents.
Many fans have pointed to a series of surprise results recorded at the ongoing World Cup as proof that no team is unbeatable, insisting Ghana must approach the contest with belief and determination.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Black Stars supporter Seth Kwakuvi Azumah said the team’s victory over Panama had boosted confidence, even though concerns remain about the side’s performance levels in the opening stages of that match.
According to him, Ghana’s display against Panama exposed areas that need improvement, particularly in midfield organisation and overall intensity, but he remains convinced the team possesses enough quality to compete with England.
He cited unexpected outcomes involving other nations at the tournament, including draws secured by underdogs against more fancied opponents, as evidence that Ghana can also produce a memorable result.
“Football has shown at this World Cup that anything is possible. We have seen smaller nations hold some of the biggest teams in the competition. Ghana can also rise to the occasion against England,” he said.
Supporters have also welcomed the expected return of midfielder Thomas Partey, whose experience and leadership are viewed as key assets for Ghana in a match expected to be dominated by tactical battles and midfield control.
The confidence among fans has been further boosted by comments from Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku, who recently described the fixture as a rivalry encounter and expressed optimism about Ghana’s chances.
However, supporters have cautioned the Black Stars against complacency, stressing that significant improvements will be required if the team is to contain an England side that opened its campaign with an impressive victory over Croatia.
Fans believe Ghana’s hopes will depend on maintaining tactical discipline, improving ball retention, and matching England’s physical intensity throughout the contest.
The eagerly anticipated clash is expected to play a decisive role in determining the Group L standings, with both teams currently level on three points after their opening matches.
For many football enthusiasts in Keta, a positive result against England would not only strengthen Ghana’s chances of reaching the knockout stages but also send a powerful message that the Black Stars remain capable of competing with the world’s elite on football’s biggest stage.
