Accra-based fashion designer and co-founder of The Cultured Man (Nateev), Michael Brett Odoom, is struggling to recover after flash floods swept through his home and workshop at Tse Addo following Monday’s heavy rains.
The designer says the flooding destroyed valuable sewing machines, fabrics, and customer orders worth thousands of cedis, leaving his business temporarily grounded.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Odoom described the incident as overwhelming, noting that both his residence and creative workspace were completely submerged.
He explained that he was unable to salvage any personal belongings as floodwaters quickly filled the premises.
“I came to the workshop, and everything is sitting in water and mud — machines, fabrics, everything is gone. The whole place is messed up,” he said.
Mr. Odoom added that the losses were particularly painful because many of the equipment items had been purchased only months ago.
He also highlighted the difficulty of repairing some of the machines locally, saying technical support often requires overseas assistance, which further complicates recovery efforts.
The disaster, he said, has affected not only him but also his 14-member team, who are now uncertain about their next steps as they search for alternative working space.
According to him, pending client orders have also been disrupted, forcing him to appeal for patience and understanding from customers.
Despite the setback, Mr. Odoom expressed gratitude for the support he has received from his church, Makers House Chapel, colleagues in the fashion industry, and friends who have reached out to offer assistance.
He ended with a hopeful note, expressing faith that recovery would come despite the scale of the destruction.
