World Vision Ghana has provided relief assistance to about 700 flood victims in the Agotime-Ziope District as part of efforts to support ongoing humanitarian response and ease the hardship of families affected by recent flooding.
The items were channelled through the organisation’s Agotime-Ziope Area Programme and handed over to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) via the District Assembly and the Member of Parliament for further distribution to affected households.
The relief package included clothing for adults and children, toothpaste, toothbrushes and petroleum jelly to address urgent personal hygiene and basic needs, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children whose homes were destroyed.
Regional Operations Manager of World Vision Ghana, Mr Irvine Aboagye, said the intervention formed part of the organisation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities during emergencies and strengthening resilience against disasters.
He noted that natural disasters often worsen the challenges faced by already vulnerable households, stressing the need for strong collaboration between humanitarian agencies, government institutions and local authorities to ensure timely support.
The Programmes Manager for the Agotime Cluster, Mr Eric Opoku Agyarko, also reiterated the importance of coordinated efforts among development partners and communities in improving disaster response and preparedness.
He said the organisation would continue to support initiatives aimed at protecting the lives, dignity and welfare of children and families affected by disasters.
Receiving the items, the Member of Parliament for Agotime-Ziope, Mr Charles Agbeve, expressed gratitude to World Vision Ghana for what he described as a timely intervention.
He assured that the relief items would be distributed fairly to affected households across the district.
Mr Agbeve further disclosed that the floods displaced hundreds of residents, destroyed homes and wiped out livelihoods, and appealed to other organisations and development partners to assist ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
