Central University has unveiled a new Pre-Bar Course aimed at preparing aspiring lawyers under Ghana’s recently enacted Legal Education Act, 2026 (Act 1170), positioning itself among the institutions embracing the country’s reformed legal education framework.

The programme, officially launched at the University’s Kumasi Campus at Ayigya on Friday, is intended to provide prospective law students with an alternative pathway into the legal profession while broadening access to legal education.

Speaking at the launch, the Dean of the Central Law School, Professor Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah, said the initiative, dubbed the “Central Pathway to Becoming a Lawyer,” was designed to combine academic rigour with practical legal training in line with the requirements of the new legislation.

He noted that the programme reflects the University’s commitment to producing highly skilled legal practitioners capable of meeting the demands of Ghana’s evolving justice system.

According to Prof. Attafuah, the introduction of the Pre-Bar Course demonstrates Central University’s readiness to support the transformation of legal education by creating more opportunities for qualified candidates to pursue careers in law.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Kwasi Dartey-Baah said the University had made significant investments in both academic expertise and institutional resources to ensure the successful delivery of the programme.

He expressed confidence that the Pre-Bar Course would become a benchmark for quality legal training under the country’s new legal education regime, equipping graduates with the professional competence, ethical values and practical skills required in modern legal practice.

The initiative forms part of the University’s broader strategy to improve access to legal education while contributing to the development of a competent legal workforce to support Ghana’s justice delivery system.

Delivering remarks in his private capacity, Otumfuo Anantahene and Senior Partner at Moomin & Botta Solicitors, Baffour Agyei Twitwiakwa II, praised the University for responding proactively to the reforms and encouraged prospective law students to seize the opportunities created by the new legal education framework.

The launch also featured an interactive engagement during which students and prospective applicants sought clarification on the implementation of the Legal Education Act, 2026, as well as the structure, admission requirements and objectives of the Pre-Bar programme.

The event was attended by the Registrar of Central University, Mrs. Lily Nutakor, Director of Academic and Student Services Mrs. Ruth Afful, Director of the Kumasi Campus Dr. Doris Yalley, faculty members, students and other invited guests.
