A Brussels Airlines flight bound for Lomé was cancelled on Monday evening after the aircraft was forced to return to Accra shortly after take-off due to a technical problem.
Flight SN278 departed from the Accra International Airport at 6:06 p.m. but turned back after the crew detected the issue during the flight.
The aircraft landed safely at the Accra International Airport at 6:18 p.m., with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) describing the decision to return as a precautionary safety measure.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 20, the GCAA praised the flight crew for adhering to established aviation safety procedures.
The Authority said the technical fault is being investigated by Brussels Airlines in accordance with established aviation safety protocols and under the oversight of the GCAA.
Following the incident, Brussels Airlines cancelled the flight, while affected passengers are being assisted by the airline in line with the Ghana Civil Aviation (Economic) Directives, 2019, particularly the provisions on consumer protection.
The GCAA assured the travelling public that the safety and security oversight systems governing Ghana’s aviation sector remain robust, stressing that passenger and crew safety continue to be its highest priority.
