The Ghana Education Service (GES) has launched investigations into the assault on the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Mr Abdulai Zakaria, following an attack by a group of students that left him injured.
The Service described the incident as a serious act of indiscipline and warned that those found responsible would face severe sanctions.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, GES said the assault was unacceptable and had no place in Ghana’s educational institutions.
“The incident, which resulted in injuries to the Headmaster, is deeply regrettable and completely unacceptable. Violence, intimidation, and acts of indiscipline have no place in our schools,” the statement said.
According to GES, the attack was carried out by a mob of students, and investigations are being conducted in collaboration with the security agencies to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Service stated that any student or individual found to have participated in or instigated the assault would be dealt with in accordance with the law and the GES Code of Conduct.
GES also called on students to pursue legitimate and peaceful channels for resolving grievances, stressing that violence could not be justified under any circumstances.
The Service appealed to parents, guardians, traditional authorities, community leaders and other stakeholders in the education sector to support efforts aimed at strengthening discipline, respect for authority and peaceful coexistence in schools.
The incident has renewed concerns about student discipline and safety in educational institutions, with GES reaffirming its commitment to maintaining order and protecting school administrators and staff across the country.
