Ghana’s growing pool of technology talent is set to receive a stronger pathway into the digital financial services market following the launch of the maiden MoMo Fintech Lab.
The initiative is designed to help developers and emerging innovators move beyond creating technology solutions to developing products that are commercially viable and capable of attracting investment.
Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech Limited, Shaibu Haruna, said the programme would bridge the gap between technical expertise and commercial success by giving innovators practical support to refine their ideas and prepare them for the market.
The launch brought together key players in Ghana’s financial and technology ecosystem, including the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, and the Head of Fintech and Innovation at the Bank of Ghana, Elhanan Owureku Asare.
Under the programme, selected developers will participate in curated boot camps in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale over the coming months.
The boot camps will provide participants with hands-on mentorship, technical reviews and guidance to improve their solutions and strengthen their ability to present their ideas to investors and industry stakeholders.
A key feature of the initiative will be the opportunity for innovators to receive feedback from professionals within the financial services and technology sectors as they develop solutions capable of addressing real market needs.
The programme will culminate in a National Demo Day, where selected participants will pitch their solutions to investors, financial institutions and other potential partners.
The organisers said the platform could help innovators secure the support required to commercialise and scale their products, while creating a stronger pipeline of locally developed solutions for Ghana’s digital financial sector.
The initiative also seeks to broaden participation in the digital finance ecosystem by creating opportunities for technology developers outside Accra.
By holding boot camps in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale, the organisers said innovators from different parts of the country would have access to mentorship, industry networks and commercial opportunities.
The launch attracted participation from companies and institutions across financial services, technology, cybersecurity and digital innovation, including Hubtel, Korba, AppNMobile, Zenith Bank, The Blu Penguin, Jumo and First National Bank.
Regulatory and public-sector institutions, including the Cyber Security Authority, Data Protection Commission and Bank of Ghana, were also represented.
The broad stakeholder participation is expected to strengthen the connection between innovators, financial institutions, technology companies and regulators as Ghana continues to expand its digital financial services ecosystem.
The MoMo Fintech Lab therefore positions itself not only as a technology development programme but as a potential bridge between Ghanaian technical talent, investment and the commercial market.
Through mentorship, investor exposure and industry engagement, the initiative aims to increase the number of locally developed fintech solutions that progress from ideas and prototypes into scalable businesses.
