Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey is stepping up his preparations for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after being ruled out of Al-Shabab’s next two matches as he continues a specialised fitness programme.
The 33-year-old will miss Al-Shabab’s fixtures against Al-Kholood and Al-Fayha as the Saudi Arabian club manages his workload ahead of his full return to competitive action.
Partey is currently undergoing intensive training sessions under the supervision of the club’s fitness coach, with the programme designed to restore him to peak physical condition.
The midfielder’s fitness will be closely monitored by the Ghana technical team as the Black Stars prepare for two important AFCON qualifying matches later this month.
Ghana will take on Côte d’Ivoire on September 24 before facing The Gambia three days later on September 27.
With head coach Carlos Queiroz expected to submit his squad soon, Partey’s availability and match fitness could be an important consideration as Ghana finalises preparations for the qualifiers.
The decision to keep him out of Al-Shabab’s next two games is therefore expected to give the experienced midfielder additional time to complete his fitness programme before joining the national team setup.
