Police in the Central North Region have rescued a 30-year-old man who was allegedly abducted at Assin Fosu after his kidnappers demanded an escalating ransom from his family.
The victim, identified as Bismark Amoh, was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday, September 6, 2026. He is currently receiving medical treatment as the police work to identify and arrest the suspects.
According to information available to the police, the kidnappers initially demanded GH¢45,000 from Bismark’s family and gave them 24 hours to raise the money.
The suspects allegedly sent WhatsApp recordings to the family showing Bismark naked, with his hands, legs and neck tied, while being subjected to physical abuse.
In the recordings, the victim reportedly pleaded with his family to urgently mobilise the ransom to save his life.
The suspects allegedly communicated with the family using Bismark’s own mobile phone, apparently in an attempt to conceal their identities and avoid leaving digital traces that could assist investigators.
With time running out, the family sought financial assistance from relatives, friends and other well-wishers and managed to raise GH¢19,500, which was subsequently paid to the abductors.
The payment, however, did not secure Bismark’s release.
Instead, the suspects allegedly demanded an additional GH¢30,500, bringing their total ransom demand to GH¢49,500.
They reportedly issued the family another eight-hour deadline and threatened to kill Bismark, burn his body and destroy his mobile phones if the additional ransom was not paid.
Police subsequently moved in and successfully rescued the victim.
Bismark is now receiving medical attention while investigators intensify efforts to trace and apprehend the alleged kidnappers.
The Central North Regional Police Command says further information will be made available as investigations progress.
