Renowned broadcast journalist Kwame Sefa Kayi has thrown his weight behind former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew to lead the Ghana Football Association (GFA), saying his potential candidacy could help bring about a change in the leadership of Ghana football.
Sefa Kayi publicly declared his support for Ayew amid growing pressure on the Kurt Okraku-led GFA administration, arguing that the sport needs a new direction as concerns persist over its development.
Speaking during a light-hearted conversation with Dan Kwaku Yeboah on Peace FM, the veteran journalist said he would support Ayew if the former national team captain decided to contest the GFA presidency.
“If he has not declared, then I am declaring for him. If Dede [Ayew] decides to contest, I will support him, and I wish everybody would do the same so that there will be changes,” he said.
Sefa Kayi acknowledged that his position was driven by a personal interest in seeing a change in the leadership of Ghana football, insisting that he was openly expressing his preference rather than pretending to be neutral.
“For this, I have declared that I am not saying I am biased. For this, I have an interest,” he added.
Ayew, who captained the Black Stars, has reportedly received calls from some football stakeholders to consider running for the GFA presidency.
However, he has yet to publicly announce any intention to contest the position.
Sefa Kayi’s endorsement adds to the discussion about the future leadership of the GFA, although it remains unclear whether Ayew will enter the race to challenge the current administration.
