The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has dismissed speculation about an impending reshuffle of the party’s parliamentary leadership, declaring that the party has no intention of replacing Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and his team.
He said the party had neither held discussions nor initiated any process to review the leadership of the Minority Caucus, describing reports of a possible change as deliberate attempts to create divisions within the party.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 29, Mr Kodua Frimpong maintained that the NPP was satisfied with the performance of its current parliamentary leadership.
“Let me state it categorically. The party has never had any meeting. The party has never thought about even deliberating to change the leadership in Parliament. We have not,” he said.
He warned individuals circulating the reports against attempting to sow confusion among members of the parliamentary caucus, insisting that such efforts would not succeed.
“Those who are busily peddling lies and trying to create this confusion among the leadership in Parliament and the mighty Minority Caucus will not succeed,” he added.
NPP Rejects Social Media Campaigns for 2028 Running Mate
Meanwhile, Mr Kodua Frimpong has cautioned party members seeking to position themselves for the NPP’s running mate slot ahead of the 2028 general elections against using social media campaigns to advance their ambitions.
He described the practice of engaging bloggers and other online platforms to promote potential running mate candidates as misguided, arguing that the party’s constitution does not provide for such a selection process.
According to him, the choice of a running mate is not determined through a contest or public campaign but rests with the party’s flagbearer in consultation with the National Council.
“There is nowhere in our constitution which says that running mate is selected through contest or through campaign. So the people who are busily urging bloggers to promote themselves, you are wrong,” he stated.
His comments come amid growing discussions within the NPP over the party’s leadership arrangements and possible running mate contenders as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
