In a powerful show of public-private collaboration, Ghana’s national security infrastructure has received a major boost with the commissioning of a new office complex and the donation of a brand-new Nissan pick-up vehicle to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in Mampong. The initiative, spearheaded by transport mogul Mr. Yaw Amponsah Marfo, CEO of VIP Transport Services, has been widely hailed as a milestone in community-driven national development.
The newly commissioned facility will serve as the Mampong Sector Command headquarters, providing a modern and conducive working environment for immigration personnel. The accompanying vehicle is expected to significantly enhance the Service’s operational efficiency and field mobility in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, praised Mr. Marfo for his generosity and vision. He emphasized that this partnership reflects the growing importance of corporate contributions to the country’s security agenda.
“This is a prime example of how individuals and businesses can partner with the government to enhance public services and national security,” the Minister said. “Without security, there can be no development, and today’s gesture strengthens our collective effort to safeguard Ghana.”
He also highlighted government’s broader commitment to equipping the Ghana Immigration Service with modern logistics, capacity-building opportunities, and adequate infrastructure to secure the country’s borders.
The Minister used the occasion to urge the public to take an active role in national security by remaining alert and reporting suspicious activities, reiterating that “security is a shared responsibility.” He further appealed to the media to play a key role in public education on this front.
Addressing current concerns, Alhaji Muntaka appealed for calm in Bawku, where recent tensions have flared, calling on residents to embrace dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
The Comptroller General of Immigration, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, commended the donation and acknowledged the persistent challenge of inadequate office space nationwide. He pledged to work closely with the Ministry to resolve these issues and promised that the new facility in Mampong would be well-maintained.
For his part, Mr. Yaw Amponsah Marfo described the contribution as a heartfelt way of giving back to the community that nurtured him. “This is just a start. I believe in investing in people and institutions that keep Ghana moving forward,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to social impact projects across the country.
The Ghana Immigration Service, under the Ministry of the Interior, plays a vital role in regulating the movement of foreigners into and out of the country, making investments in its capacity a crucial element of national development.
