Ghanaian media personality and singer Afua Asantewaa has once again fallen short in her bid to break the Guinness World Record for the longest individual singing marathon, after her second attempt was disqualified over technical violations.
In an official statement, Guinness World Records (GWR) revealed that Afua’s effort was nullified due to two critical breaches of rest break regulations, which form a core part of the marathon guidelines.
Rest Break Missteps
According to GWR, Afua’s team violated the strict break time rules that require performers to take only 5 minutes of rest for every continuous hour of singing. However, the review found two major lapses:
At 23:25 during sequence 19, Afua took a 15-minute break, exceeding the allowed 5 minutes.
Later, during sequence 21, she paused for 105 minutes, despite having only 10 minutes of accrued rest.
These deviations from the prescribed rest structure automatically disqualified her attempt, as GWR prioritizes fairness and consistency in adjudicating record efforts.
Undeterred by the Setback
Despite this second setback, Afua remains optimistic. In a heartfelt message, she thanked her supporters for their unwavering encouragement, highlighting the personal growth and discovery the journey has brought her.
“It’s been a challenging yet rewarding journey. Exploring my potential on the Guinness World Records platform has brought about growth, discovery, and life-altering experiences,” she said.
Afua also expressed gratitude to her sponsors, including Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and other corporate backers, for their continued support.
The Road Ahead
With this latest attempt falling short, Afua Asantewaa is now at a crossroads in her quest for global recognition. Yet, she has made it clear that this is not the end of her journey.
“Though this marks my second unsuccessful attempt, my resolve remains unshaken. I am still on the path to achieving my dreams,” she affirmed.
Asantewaa’s fans remain hopeful that her perseverance will eventually earn her a place in the Guinness World Records, proving that setbacks are merely steps on the road to success.
