NCCE Urges Citizens to Embrace Patriotism and Accountability

In a passionate appeal to strengthen Ghana’s democratic fabric, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Anloga District has called on citizens to reignite their sense of patriotism and uphold shared values that foster nation-building.

Speaking during a Constitution Week community engagement in Anyanui, Madam Emmanuella Woelikplim Apetorgbor, the Assistant Civic Education Officer, emphasized that love for country must manifest in actions that prioritize national interest over individual or partisan gains.

“This is about collective responsibility,” she stated. “Putting Ghana first in our actions, choices, and contributions is how we secure a better future for the next generation.”

The Constitution Week, observed annually since 2001, commemorates the April 28, 1992, referendum that birthed Ghana’s Fourth Republic. It remains a cornerstone of the NCCE’s outreach efforts to instill civic consciousness and deepen respect for democratic governance.

Madam Apetorgbor hailed the peaceful conduct and widespread participation in the December 7, 2024, general elections as evidence of Ghana’s democratic maturity, urging citizens to go further by committing to honesty, discipline, and integrity in both public and private life.

She reminded attendees that national cohesion requires more than political tolerance — it demands a readiness to hold leaders accountable, care for the environment, and foster unity across ethnic and religious lines.

“Ghana’s progress depends on how well we live our values,” she noted. “From fighting corruption to preventing election violence, these are responsibilities that rest on every Ghanaian.”

This year’s celebration is themed, “Ghana’s Future: Our Collective Responsibility,” aligning with the NCCE’s mission to empower citizens to participate meaningfully in democratic governance.

As part of the event, participants were encouraged to champion environmental sustainability, support reforestation efforts, and adopt energy-saving habits as part of their patriotic duty.

“Every act of good citizenship counts,” Madam Apetorgbor concluded. “It’s only through unity and responsibility that we can build a strong, peaceful, and prosperous Ghana.”
