The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC and the University of Cape Coast (UCC) are exploring avenues to strengthen collaboration between academia and the financial sector to support human capital development and Ghana’s socioeconomic growth.
The move follows a high-level engagement between the leadership of the two institutions, when the Vice-Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Dennis Worlanyo Aheto, led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on ADB Managing Director, Edward Ato Sarpong, and Deputy Managing Director in charge of Services, Prof. Ferdinand Ahiakpor.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both institutions to discuss areas of mutual interest and consider ways of leveraging their respective expertise to promote knowledge sharing, capacity building and innovation.
Welcoming the UCC delegation, Mr Sarpong stressed the importance of strategic institutional partnerships, particularly between academia and the banking industry.
He said stronger cooperation could facilitate knowledge exchange, develop human capital and generate innovative solutions capable of contributing to national development.
The ADB Managing Director reaffirmed the Bank’s willingness to build sustainable relationships with reputable institutions and explore practical areas of collaboration with UCC.
Prof. Ahiakpor also called for closer engagement between universities and industry, saying such partnerships could help bridge the gap between academic training and the skills required by businesses and other sectors of the economy.
For his part, Prof. Aheto expressed UCC’s commitment to deepening its relationship with ADB and pursuing initiatives that would benefit both institutions.
He said the visit also provided an opportunity to formally appreciate ADB for sending a delegation from Accra to congratulate him following his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of the University.
According to Prof. Aheto, sustained collaboration between UCC and ADB could open up opportunities in knowledge sharing, capacity development and other initiatives of mutual benefit.
The discussions further focused on institutional development and the role of strategic partnerships in strengthening human capital and supporting Ghana’s socioeconomic advancement.
The UCC delegation included the Registrar, Mr Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, and Director of Finance, Mr George Amfo-Antiri.
The engagement is expected to provide a foundation for both institutions to identify and pursue practical areas of cooperation as they seek to deepen their partnership.
