Farmers in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region have received fertilisers to help increase crop yields and ease the financial pressure associated with purchasing agricultural inputs.
The fertiliser distribution, facilitated by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Manfred Tawiah, was undertaken in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and covered farmers from various farming communities across the district.
The intervention is expected to improve soil fertility and enhance agricultural productivity, while helping farmers reduce their input costs.
Mr Tawiah said supporting farmers was essential to strengthening agriculture, which remains an important contributor to the socio-economic development of the district.
He said the provision of fertilisers and other essential inputs would help farmers increase food production, improve household incomes and create additional economic opportunities.
According to him, strengthening agricultural productivity would also contribute to improving food security in the district.
The DCE reiterated his commitment to working closely with farmers and relevant stakeholders to develop agriculture and position it as a major driver of economic growth in Afadzato South.
He said the Assembly would continue to explore initiatives that could provide farmers with the support needed to improve their productivity and livelihoods.
Some beneficiary farmers expressed appreciation to the DCE and the President for the intervention, describing the fertiliser support as timely and valuable to their farming activities.
