The Asokore-Mampong Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Ben Abdullah Alhassan, has called on private school owners in the municipality to strengthen collaboration with the District Assembly to enhance education delivery and overall community development.
Speaking at a meeting with school proprietors, Mr. Alhassan noted that many private school owners often hesitate to approach the Assembly when faced with operational challenges, limiting their access to support and resources that could improve their institutions. He encouraged school owners to unite and present concerns collectively, saying this would amplify their voices and ensure timely intervention.
The MCE highlighted opportunities within the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) specifically allocated to support private businesses, including educational institutions, noting that lack of awareness about these provisions has prevented some schools from benefiting. He also recalled the recent fire at SAR Educational Complex, describing it as a tragic reminder of the need for prompt Assembly assistance in emergencies.
Addressing broader educational challenges, Mr. Alhassan lamented the municipality’s inability to achieve a single-digit pass rate in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for five consecutive years, urging private schools to hire teachers who are passionate about teaching to raise standards and improve student outcomes.
He stressed that mutual cooperation is vital, pointing out that the Assembly relies on private schools, particularly through prompt tax payments, to implement community development projects. “Together, we can strengthen education and build a better future for our children,” he said.
School owners expressed appreciation for the briefing, describing it as an opportunity to foster closer relations with the Assembly and improve the quality of education in the municipality.
