In a show of grassroots leadership, Mr. Francis Darku, Assembly Member for the Konda/Abanu Electoral Area in the Kpando Municipality, has taken proactive steps to support basic education by visiting two Junior High Schools in his jurisdiction—Konda JHS and Abanu JHS—to engage with students and teachers ahead of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
As part of the visit, Mr. Darku donated essential examination materials—mathematical sets, pens, and long rulers—to 60 final-year students (35 from Konda and 25 from Abanu), aimed at easing their preparation burden and boosting their morale.
Beyond the donation, Mr. Darku used the opportunity to listen to educators and pupils, addressing challenges facing the schools. He voiced deep concern over the dire infrastructural state of Abanu Primary and JHS, highlighting that the school’s classrooms become unusable during rainstorms due to flooding. He called on the Kpando Municipal Assembly, the central government, and philanthropic groups to act swiftly to rehabilitate the school’s facilities.
The visit, attended by Unit Committee members and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) representatives, reinforced the shared commitment between local leadership and the community to improve educational outcomes.
Mr. Darku pledged to continue lobbying for better conditions in schools, emphasizing that no child in the Konda/Abanu area should be denied a safe, conducive environment for learning.
