Students in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency are set to benefit from a new educational support initiative introduced by their Member of Parliament, Ms. Shirley Tiwaa Kyei, aimed at expanding access to education for brilliant but needy learners.
The “Shirley Kyei Educational Support Scheme” will provide both financial and material assistance to students from basic through tertiary levels, including those in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
The initiative, launched at Nkawie, is designed to ensure that students pursuing vocational and technical skills are not left out, with the MP stressing that all educational pathways are equally important for national development.
Ms. Kyei said the scheme reflects her commitment to empowering young people and helping them unlock their academic and professional potential, regardless of their background.
She announced that 50 students have already received support under the first phase of the programme, describing it as an important step toward reducing educational inequality in the constituency.
Funding for the scheme will be drawn from her share of the MP’s Common Fund, with technical support from the Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service and other education stakeholders.
The Municipal Director of Education, Nana Pokuaa Amoako, welcomed the initiative, saying it would ease the financial burden on parents and help nurture talent among students from low-income households.
She encouraged similar interventions, noting that sustained investment in education remains key to improving opportunities for young people in the area.
