Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has publicly challenged Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare-Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, to provide concrete evidence for corruption allegations he recently made against him on social media.
Addressing the press on Wednesday, April 30, Dr. Ayine firmly denied the accusations, which include claims that he misappropriated funds from the Sanitation Levy and accepted illicit campaign donations. He labelled the Facebook allegations as “palpable falsehoods,” insisting that his track record and ethical standards are the foundation of his current position.
“I have never been involved in the passage or management of the Sanitation Levy, and I was not on the Finance Committee of Parliament when it was introduced. The claims are not only false, they are reckless,” Dr. Ayine stated.
He also pushed back on assertions that receiving campaign contributions equated to corruption, stating, “If that’s the measure, then there are 276 corrupt MPs, including the one making the accusation.”
Dr. Ayine has called on A Plus to take his claims beyond social media. “If he truly believes I’m corrupt, he should hold a press conference or better still, submit his evidence to the police for an official investigation. I’m ready to face any probe.”
The challenge has added fuel to an ongoing political feud, raising questions about transparency, campaign financing, and the use of public platforms for unverified accusations. As of now, A Plus is yet to respond formally to Dr. Ayine’s call.
