A fatal domestic incident in the Bono Region, which claimed the life of 30-year-old Esther David, has reignited public concern about the growing prevalence of intimate partner violence and the vulnerability of women in abusive relationships.
Police say they are probing the circumstances that led to Esther’s death during a confrontation with her husband, Abraham, in their home. What reportedly began as a disagreement over access to a mobile phone escalated into a physical altercation, leaving Esther unconscious. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Though investigations are ongoing, residents familiar with the couple’s relationship describe a troubling pattern of domestic disputes. Neighbours say previous tensions had been observed, raising questions about whether early intervention could have prevented the tragedy.
Adding another layer to the situation, family sources confirm that Esther had recently undergone surgery, making her physically fragile and potentially more susceptible to injury during the confrontation.
The police have confirmed that Abraham is cooperating with investigators, while the deceased has been taken to the morgue for autopsy as part of the probe.
The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger community-based mechanisms to detect and address domestic abuse, as well as better support systems for women in vulnerable situations. Authorities and advocates insist that without comprehensive preventive measures, similar tragedies may continue to occur.
