A burst water pipeline has disrupted water supply to three communities in the Kadjebi area of the Oti Region, leaving residents without running water for several days.
The affected communities are Martin Kordzi, Tadzewu Kpodzi and Asito, where the interruption began on Monday, August 31, 2026.
The disruption has affected access to water for essential household activities, including cooking, bathing and washing, with residents being compelled to ration the limited water available to them.
Mr Mawuli Agbeve, an electrical operator with the Kadjebi Water Company, confirmed that the shortage was linked to a burst pipeline around the residence of Mr Wisdom Aglonu at Martin Kordzi.
He said information about the damaged pipeline reached him on the evening of Saturday, September 5, and that steps were being taken to fix the fault.
According to Mr Agbeve, the water company was mobilising the necessary resources to repair the damaged section of the pipeline and restore normal supply to the affected communities.
He expressed optimism that the repair works would be completed and water restored by Sunday, September 6, barring any unforeseen difficulties.
Meanwhile, residents have called for urgent action to prevent the breakdown from developing into a prolonged water crisis.
Ms Esther Nyame, a resident of Martin Kordzi, described the situation as “sorrowful and pathetic,” explaining that the shortage had affected her ability to maintain normal bathing routines.
She appealed to the Kadjebi Water Board to treat the disruption as an emergency and expedite efforts to restore supply.
Mr George Dorhame of Tadzewu Kpodzi also urged the authorities to act swiftly, saying households were struggling to secure sufficient water for their basic needs.
Residents expressed concern that an extended interruption could create sanitation and public health challenges if households continued to operate without reliable access to water.
The Kadjebi Water Company has meanwhile urged residents to conserve the water available to them while repair efforts continue.
The authorities are expected to restore supply once the burst section of the pipeline has been repaired and the network is brought back into normal operation.
