Investor confidence has played a critical role in Ghana’s recent economic recovery, President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has said.
He said the improvement in Ghana’s economic fortunes demonstrated how confidence in a country’s leadership and policy direction could influence the movement of capital and investment.
Speaking at the Accra Reset hosted by President John Dramani Mahama on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly on Monday, September 21, Mr Dangote said the restoration of investor trust had been central to the renewed confidence in Ghana’s economy.
The African business leader said the turnaround was not the result of extraordinary interventions but reflected decisions that had reassured investors and strengthened their confidence in the country.
According to him, President Mahama’s approach had helped rebuild trust among investors, creating conditions for greater confidence in the economy.
He said the Ghanaian experience provided an example of the connection between confidence in leadership and investment decisions.
“He didn’t do any magic. He’s not a magician, but he did the right things, and people really have a lot of trust in him. And that’s why Ghana’s economy turned around. This has actually shown that money follows trust,” he said.
Mr Dangote, who is also Africa’s richest man, said the development reinforced the importance of credibility and confidence in efforts to attract capital and sustain economic recovery.
His comments came as the Accra Reset brought together business and other stakeholders to discuss Ghana’s economic outlook and the country’s efforts to strengthen investor confidence.
