Economist and political risk expert Dr Theo Acheampong has highlighted how Ghana can capitalize on historically high gold prices to stabilize its economy, strengthen the cedi, and create jobs.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express, Dr Acheampong explained that the current gold price surge presents an opportunity for the country to build a financial “war chest” — a strategic reserve designed to support the economy rather than just accumulate wealth.
“The end goal is to support the currency, bolster economic stability, and ultimately generate employment opportunities,” he said.
Dr Acheampong noted that analyses from leading investment banks, multilateral institutions, and local research indicate that gold will likely remain a strong contributor to Ghana’s economy for the next two to three years, giving the country a crucial window to leverage the windfall effectively.
He stressed that careful planning and disciplined use of these funds could transform gold revenues into long-term economic resilience.
