In an era where ethical leadership is often demanded but rarely demonstrated, Lance Corporal Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu has emerged as a living testament to the enduring value of personal integrity within Ghana’s armed services.
What began as a routine guard duty assignment at the Bibiani Gold Mines turned into a defining moment for the then-Private, who boldly rejected a significant bribe from illegal miners and chose instead to uphold the law. That single act of courage has now earned him not only a promotion to the rank of Lance Corporal but also a coveted nomination to serve with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
His elevation was officially announced by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, during a high-level durbar at Burma Camp in Accra on Friday, July 11, 2025. At the well-attended event, the CDS commended Teye-Tsu’s example as a reminder that moral courage and discipline are not abstract ideals but essential components of true military professionalism.
“While acts of indiscipline attract sanctions,” the CDS remarked, “professional conduct such as that demonstrated by L/Cpl. Teye-Tsu will always attract reward and commendation.”
Currently stationed with the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces, L/Cpl. Teye-Tsu’s actions not only drew admiration from the military high command but also from the private sector. Security firm Ojeyz Security Limited—operators of the mining site—recognized him with an Outstanding Staff Award, describing him as “a beacon of professionalism and service excellence.”
The honour, signed by the firm’s CEO Captain Haruna Adamu (Rtd), praised the soldier’s unwavering dedication to ethical duty, setting him apart in a security landscape often challenged by corruption and compromise.
Hailing from Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region, the 30-year-old soldier is not new to responsibility or civic advocacy. He is an alumnus of Manya Krobo SHS and King David College and actively contributes to the Kloma Gbi youth movement, which champions development and integrity in Krobo land.
L/Cpl. Teye-Tsu’s rise underscores a deeper truth: even in the most pressured environments, principled choices can lead not only to personal growth but to national inspiration and international opportunity. His journey offers a powerful message to all public servants—that doing the right thing still matters.
