The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has pushed back strongly against what it describes as a deliberate misinformation campaign aimed at tarnishing the reputation of Kotoka International Airport and the country’s aviation sector.
In a sharply worded statement issued on Friday, May 23, 2025, the company dismissed recent media reports—particularly a publication in The Herald Newspaper—alleging serious lapses in operational safety, inadequate equipment, and staff dissatisfaction.
GACL insisted the claims were “false and misleading,” warning that individuals and media houses spreading such unverified reports will face disciplinary and legal consequences.
Among the allegations addressed, GACL clarified that it operates more than one airside vehicle and maintains a sufficient stock of critical equipment such as marshalling wands and communication radios. The company also rebutted suggestions of inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE), stating that both Accra and regional airports have received the necessary gear for staff safety.
The management described the report of staff agitation as baseless, adding that it believes a few disgruntled individuals may be attempting to discredit the organization for selfish reasons.
GACL further explained its access control protocol for restricted airport zones, asserting that such measures are in place to maintain both safety and security—not to hinder operations, as suggested in the publication.
“The Ghana Airports Company Limited remains committed to world-class standards in safety and operations,” the statement emphasized. “Those who engage in fabricating or disseminating defamatory content will be held accountable under the law.”
GACL concluded its response by urging media outlets to fact-check reports and avoid becoming conduits for misinformation, especially on matters that affect national and international confidence in Ghana’s aviation infrastructure.
