Accra is hosting leading researchers, pharmacists, and health experts from across Africa and beyond for the 5th Annual Conference of Pharmacoepidemiology in Africa, a major event focused on improving medicine safety and promoting responsible drug use.
The three-day conference, running from April 20 to 22, 2026, is organised by the Africa Regional Interest Group of the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology.
The gathering is expected to spotlight African-led solutions to challenges such as unsafe medicine use, antimicrobial resistance, and weak drug monitoring systems.
Organisers say the event also highlights Ghana’s growing influence in pharmaceutical policy, research, and medicine safety across the continent.
Participants will engage in keynote presentations, plenary sessions, scientific symposia, workshops, and oral and poster presentations designed to share practical research findings and best practices.
The conference is also expected to create opportunities for early-career scientists and researchers to interact with leading experts in the field and build professional networks.
According to organisers, the event will strengthen collaboration among pharmacy professionals, researchers, regulators, and policymakers working to improve the safe use of medicines, vaccines, and health technologies in Africa.
Key partners supporting the conference include the Ministry of Health, the University of Ghana, the University of Cape Coast, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, the Pharmacy Council Ghana, and Medicines Utilization Research in Africa.
