President John Dramani Mahama has launched the National Apprenticeship Programme; a nationwide skills training initiative backed by GHS 300 million in government funding.
Targeting thousands of young Ghanaians, the programme is designed to equip participants with practical skills to enter the job market or start their own businesses.
With 70% of the training focused on hands-on experience and 30% on classroom learning, the programme aims to close the gap between education and employability.
The initiative will be rolled out across all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), with online access also available through the National Youth Authority’s digital platform, ensuring inclusivity for those in remote areas or with mobility challenges.
At the official launch, President Mahama described the programme as a “transformational investment in Ghana’s human capital,” pledging that the government will leave “no young person behind.”
“This isn’t just a training programme. It’s a national mission to unlock the potential of our youth and build a more resilient, self-sufficient economy,” he said.
The GHS 300 million budget allocation will fully cover training, materials, logistics, and support services, making participation free for all beneficiaries.
The National Apprenticeship Programme is a cornerstone of the government’s broader youth empowerment and entrepreneurship strategy, aimed at addressing systemic unemployment and creating sustainable economic opportunities.
