The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has cautioned the public, particularly job seekers, to be on high alert following the circulation of a fake recruitment notice on social media.
The fraudulent announcement, designed to mimic an official GPHA communication, urges applicants to submit personal information including names, phone numbers, and email addresses. Officials fear the scheme is a ploy to harvest sensitive data from unsuspecting victims.
Dr. Kingsley Antwi-Boasiako, General Manager for Marketing and Corporate Affairs at GPHA, said in a statement that the Authority is not conducting any recruitment exercise and described the viral notice as “false and misleading.”
He reminded the public that all legitimate GPHA announcements are released exclusively through the Authority’s official website and approved communication channels.
Cybersecurity experts warn that scams of this nature are becoming increasingly common, preying on the high demand for jobs. By tricking applicants into sharing personal details, fraudsters can engage in identity theft, financial fraud, or further online scams.
GPHA has therefore urged the public to exercise caution, verify all employment-related notices before responding, and report suspicious messages.
“Treat this scam with the contempt it deserves and help stop the spread of misinformation,” the Authority stressed.
