Renowned Highlife musician Pat Thomas, affectionately known as the Golden Voice of Africa, made a heartfelt visit to the home of the late Daddy Lumba to offer condolences and support to the grieving family.
Dressed in somber black, Thomas expressed the deep shock and sorrow he felt upon hearing the news of Daddy Lumba’s passing. “It’s not easy at all. My family and I are immensely saddened by this unexpected loss,” he shared with the press before entering the residence.
Reflecting on their close bond, Thomas described Daddy Lumba as both a brother and nephew, highlighting their shared roots in Asante. “We had a great relationship. He’s my little brother and nephew — coming from nearby towns, our connection was instant,” he said with emotion.
Despite the public attention, Thomas requested privacy during this difficult time, indicating that he would speak more extensively later.
In a touching moment, the veteran musician joined a group of spirited cheerleaders clad in Ghana’s national colors, singing and dancing in tribute. Yet, when signing the book of condolence, Thomas was overcome with tears, revealing the depth of his grief.
Both Thomas and Daddy Lumba were trailblazers in the Burger Highlife scene, with Thomas having risen to fame in the same musical tradition that Daddy Lumba helped shape.
This visit underscores the profound impact Daddy Lumba had on his peers and the Highlife community, as the music world mourns the loss of one of its greatest icons.
