The Ho Municipal Assembly has intensified efforts to promote economic inclusion and self-reliance among Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) through the distribution of livelihood support items under the fourth phase of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) intervention.
The initiative, carried out at the forecourt of the Assembly, was led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Stephen Adom, and forms part of a broader strategy to integrate PWDs into sustainable economic activities within the municipality.
Beneficiaries received a variety of support packages tailored to their vocational and household needs. These included cash assistance, sewing machines, chest freezers, fufu pounding machines, barbering tools, and essential household supplies such as rice, cooking oil, and detergents.
Officials say the intervention is designed to help recipients start or expand small businesses, strengthen their income streams, and reduce economic dependence, ultimately improving their quality of life.
Speaking during the distribution, Mr Adom reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that funds allocated under the DACF for PWDs are disbursed transparently and directed strictly toward improving their livelihoods.
He said the programme reflects a wider commitment by the Assembly to strengthen social protection systems and ensure that vulnerable groups are not excluded from local economic development.
According to him, monitoring mechanisms will be enhanced to ensure that beneficiaries effectively utilise the support provided to generate sustainable income and long-term economic benefits.
“We are committed to making sure that allocations meant for Persons with Disabilities reach them on time and are used for their intended purpose. We will continue to follow up and support them to achieve meaningful impact,” he said.
The Assembly also encouraged families, traditional leaders, and community members to continue fostering an inclusive environment that recognises the abilities and contributions of persons with disabilities rather than focusing on their limitations.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the items received would significantly improve their businesses and living conditions while enabling them to contribute more actively to local economic development.
The intervention is part of ongoing efforts by the Ho Municipal Assembly to promote inclusive growth and ensure that no segment of society is left behind in the development process.
