Inspector‑General of Police (IGP) COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno has officially reinstated Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dr. Benjamin K. Agordzo and elevated him to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) .
Dr. Agordzo, who had previously retired following his acquittal in a high‑treason case in January 2024, has now rejoined the Ghana Police Service with this well‑earned promotion . His elevation was part of a wider exercise on Friday, July 11, 2025, where 19 senior officers were promoted to the ranks of Commissioner of Police (COP) and DCOP in a ceremony at Police Headquarters, Accra .
Dr. Agordzo has not only reclaimed his position but now joins the leadership at a higher level, alongside other promoted DCOPs such as God‑Act Dodzi Hlordzi, Wisdom Korli, Joseph Owusu Ansah, Joshua Copson, and others . His course mates, who had previously advanced, were cited as one of the reasons for the long‑overdue nature of his promotion .
The Interior Minister, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed‑Mubarak, presided over the event, urging transparency in promotion processes and urging senior officers to mentor junior ranks effectively . IGP Yohuno emphasized that the timely elevation of deserving officers serves as a vital morale booster across the Service .
Background
Dr. Agordzo was among those charged with high treason in April 2021 amid allegations of plotting a coup against President Akufo‑Addo’s administration. However, he was fully acquitted in January 2024 and subsequently later appointed as Head of Human Resources at the National Security Council in January 2025 .
