Ghana striker Inaki Williams has brought his international career with the Black Stars to an end after featuring for the country at three major tournaments, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 32-year-old Athletic Bilbao forward announced his retirement from international football in a statement on X, saying he was proud of his contribution to the national team.
Williams made 28 appearances for Ghana and scored two goals after switching his international allegiance from Spain to his parents’ homeland.
His Black Stars career included appearances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 World Cup.
Announcing his decision, Williams said he believed the time had come to close a chapter that had allowed him to reconnect with his Ghanaian heritage.
“I feel the time has come to bring my journey with the Ghana national team to an end,” he said.
The forward said he left the Black Stars with satisfaction, having given his best whenever he represented the country.
“I leave happy, proud and with the peace of mind of knowing that I gave everything every time I wore this shirt.”
Williams, who was born in Spain to Ghanaian parents, said playing for Ghana had meant more to him than football, giving him the opportunity to reconnect with his roots and experience the honour of representing the country.
“Ghana has given me much more than football,” he said. “It has allowed me to come back home, feel even closer to my roots and experience the enormous pride of representing my country and wearing this flag on my chest.”
He expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for their support throughout his international career and pledged to continue supporting the Black Stars despite his retirement.
“Ghana will always be a part of me. I will continue supporting the Black Stars as one of you, wherever I am. Medaase. Always Ghana.”
