Ghanaian rapper Joey B has expressed deep appreciation for fellow musician Shaker, describing him as a pivotal influence in his early career and creative development.
Speaking on 3Music TV, the “Tonga” hitmaker said his rise in the music industry cannot be fully told without acknowledging Shaker’s early support and mentorship.
“I owe it all to God, but God used him,” Joey B said, highlighting the role Shaker played in shaping his path.
He recounted how their relationship began while he was a student at Accra High School, when Shaker challenged him to perform a freestyle session.
“He told me to freestyle. I did, and he said, ‘Take my number.’ That was it,” Joey B recalled, describing the moment as a turning point in his journey.
Joey B also praised the lasting bond between them, noting that their friendship has remained strong over the years despite his rise to fame.
“Every silent accolade I get, I call him and tell him I owe it to him,” he added.
In a light-hearted remark, the rapper joked that Shaker would be among the first people he would financially reward if he ever became a millionaire, estimating he would give him at least $100,000 if he received $1 million.
The comments add to growing recognition of Shaker’s influence within Ghana’s music scene, particularly in nurturing emerging talent.
