Sam Issaka Suraj has praised the National Commission for Civic Education for its role in promoting patriotism, constitutional awareness and responsible citizenship among young people.
During a courtesy visit by officials from the Kadjebi District Directorate of the NCCE, Dr Suraj described the Commission’s flagship programmes as critical in shaping responsible citizens and strengthening democracy at the grassroots level.
He highlighted initiatives such as the Citizenship Week Celebration, Constitution Game Board and Project Citizen as impactful programmes that continue to instill democratic values in the youth.
According to him, civic education remains essential for national development and social cohesion.
He urged the Commission to sustain its outreach efforts in schools and communities to help nurture discipline, patriotism and peaceful coexistence.
Dr Suraj recalled previously serving as a resource person during a Citizenship Week event at Mempeasem E.P. Junior High School, where he witnessed firsthand the positive influence of civic education on students.
He also challenged community leaders and educators to serve as positive role models for young people.
“The youth look up to adults, so we must demonstrate values worth emulating,” he said.
The District Chief Executive assured the Commission of the Assembly’s willingness to support its activities despite limited resources.
Innocent Komla Gavua also stressed the importance of civic education in promoting accountability and active citizen participation.
Meanwhile, Delight Ama Serwaa Akey raised concerns about logistical challenges affecting the Directorate’s operations.
She said inadequate transport, especially the lack of a motorbike, continues to hinder outreach efforts in remote communities.
She appealed to the District Assembly and other stakeholders for support to help the Commission expand its public education campaigns across the district.
