President John Dramani Mahama has made a heartfelt appeal to the people of Bawku and its surrounding areas, urging them to prioritize peace and reconciliation to end the ongoing conflict in the region.
Speaking during Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebration at the Jubilee House on March 6, 2025, Mahama lamented the recent violence that has claimed around 56 lives and necessitated a government-imposed curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Addressing the theme of this year’s celebrations, “Reflect, Review, and Reset,” Mahama called on residents to break free from cycles of mistrust and past grievances for the sake of future generations.
“Our children deserve to inherit a peaceful land where their dreams can be nurtured, not a place where their nightmares are relived,” he emphasized. “They deserve schools that echo with learning, not with melancholy.”
He urged the people of Bawku to embrace reconciliation, stressing that the path to peace is built on renewal and friendship.
“This is not an invitation to forget the past, far from it. It is an invitation to rise above it,” Mahama stated.
His call for unity comes at a critical time as authorities work to restore stability in the troubled region.
