The Methodist Church Ghana has appealed to its Ministers across the country to take an active role in supporting victims of the recent floods in Accra by mobilising relief items and making church facilities available as temporary shelters where necessary.
The directive was issued by the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Reverend Professor Johnson K. Asamoah-Gyadu, in response to the widespread destruction caused by Monday’s heavy rains, which displaced residents and left several communities inundated.
He urged Ministers to work with their congregations to provide both material and physical assistance to affected individuals and families as emergency response efforts continue.
According to the Presiding Bishop, churches should be prepared to open their premises to accommodate displaced residents who require temporary shelter until conditions improve.
He expressed the Church’s solidarity with all those affected by the floods, describing the disaster as deeply distressing, and assured victims of the Church’s prayers and support during the difficult period.
The Most Reverend Asamoah-Gyadu also prayed for the swift rescue of people still trapped by floodwaters and for comfort and strength for families who had lost homes, property and other valuables.
The appeal comes as emergency response agencies, volunteers and community groups continue rescue and relief operations in flood-affected communities across the Greater Accra Region following the torrential rains that caused extensive flooding on Monday.
