The Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to decentralisation and fiscal discipline during a working visit to Ahafo Region, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability in delivering sustainable development.
Meeting with Charity Gardiner in Goaso, the Minister inspected ongoing projects supported under the SECO programme and other partner initiatives. He emphasised that prudent financial management and compliance with frameworks such as the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), and performance monitoring tools like the District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT) are critical to building public trust.
During the inspection, the Minister highlighted that over GH₵980 million had been disbursed to finance priority local infrastructure projects, with an additional GH₵42.9 million allocated to MMDAs for capacity building and procurement of essential logistics. These investments have supported the delivery of more than 10,000 basic infrastructure projects nationwide, including schools, health facilities, markets, roads, water and sanitation systems, electricity extensions, police stations, and warehouses.
Mrs Gardiner commended the government and development partners for selecting the Ahafo Region as a key beneficiary of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF)-RFG Programme, noting its contribution to infrastructure such as classroom blocks, market facilities, CHPS compounds, and lorry parks.
Representatives from SECO and KfW praised the government for its strong partnership and progress under the programme, reaffirming their commitment to continued collaboration, transparency, and long-term sustainability of interventions.
The Minister and delegation concluded the visit with inspections of selected project sites, including Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) compounds and schools, assessing work quality, compliance with standards, and project progress as part of ongoing monitoring efforts.
