The Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has urged the government and corporate sector to integrate affordable and accessible food services within major institutions to improve employee welfare and productivity.
Speaking in Parliament, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings highlighted the challenges workers face in accessing reasonably priced meals during office hours, particularly in hospitals, banks, Ministries, and large private offices. She noted that the lack of structured cafeteria facilities often forces staff and vendors to operate in unauthorized spaces, creating congestion and operational inefficiencies.
The MP proposed that cafeterias and food courts be incorporated into institutional planning and included as part of infrastructure approval requirements. She called on key regulatory bodies—such as the Ministry of Works and Housing, Ministry of Local Government, and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs)—to develop clear guidelines to ensure future developments cater to employees’ welfare needs.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings emphasized that the measure would not only enhance working conditions but also promote productivity and orderly operations within large institutions.
