MTN Group has reaffirmed its commitment to driving Africa’s digital transformation and economic growth, declaring that the continent’s future depends on unity, innovation, and investment in young people.
Marking this year’s Africa Day celebration, the telecommunications giant said Africa possessed enormous untapped potential and stressed the need for collective action to build a more connected, resilient, and prosperous continent.
In a statement issued by Lesego Puso, the company revealed that it currently employs 15,000 people from 74 nationalities across 19 African markets, with 87 percent of new recruits in 2025 being local citizens employed in their countries of origin.
The company stated that Africa’s youthful population represented one of the continent’s greatest strengths and could become the world’s largest workforce by 2040 if supported through investment in education, entrepreneurship, skills development, and technology.
Ralph Mupita said MTN remained committed to unlocking Africa’s potential through digital connectivity, financial inclusion, and infrastructure development.
According to him, MTN generated about R150 billion in economic value across the continent in 2025, while its total tax contribution reached R61.1 billion.
The company also disclosed that it invested R38.5 billion in digital and physical infrastructure during the year to strengthen connectivity and support the continent’s digital economy.
MTN further indicated that its corporate social investments reached R269 million in 2025, benefiting about 2.3 million people, mostly young Africans.
The statement noted that digital technology would remain a major driver of Africa’s future by expanding access to education, healthcare, financial services, and economic opportunities across the continent.
Quoting Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, the company reiterated the importance of African unity and collective responsibility in shaping the continent’s future.
