MTN Ghana has announced major investments across the country aimed at improving digital connectivity, enhancing education, and promoting innovation in agriculture as part of its broader vision to accelerate Ghana’s digital transformation.
At a stakeholders and media engagement in Kumasi, Ms. Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, said the company’s efforts go beyond telecommunications to include initiatives that directly impact livelihoods and national development.
This year alone, MTN has committed $245 million towards network expansion and improvement, including the construction of 14 new sites in the Ashanti Region and upgrades to existing ones. The company is also expanding its fibre infrastructure to improve internet access in underserved areas.
On education, Ms. Wiafe disclosed that 300 tertiary students will benefit from Bright Scholarships, while 200 teachers will undergo training to strengthen classroom outcomes. In addition, the MTN Foundation is establishing AI Digital Skills Academies to train Ghanaian youth in emerging technologies and prepare them for future job markets.
In agriculture, MTN has partnered with the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Ghana to pilot a Smart Farm Concept, which leverages ICT tools to increase food production and attract more young people into farming.
Mr. Dickson A. Yam, Technical Manager for Network Systems, emphasized that the network upgrades would ensure reliable connectivity for businesses and individuals, while Nii Adotey Mingle, General Manager for the Northern Sector, stressed that MTN’s investments cut across critical sectors of Ghana’s socio-economic life.
“Our focus is to connect communities, businesses, and individuals with solutions that make a real difference in their lives,” Ms. Wiafe noted, adding that MTN’s sustainability agenda is central to its 2025 Vision of building a digitally inclusive future for Ghana.
