MTN has recognised and rewarded 19 outstanding Mobile Money agents and merchants from the Western and Western North Regions for their significant role in expanding the Mobile Money (MoMo) ecosystem and promoting digital financial services in Ghana.
The businesses were honoured at the 2025 MTN Stakeholder Dinner and Awards, where they received citations and cash prizes aimed at strengthening their operations through capital reinjection. The overall best-performing mobile vendors and merchants each received a cash award of GH¢20,000.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Operations Officer of Mobile Money Fintech Limited, Mr. Abdul-Razak Issaka Ali, highlighted the critical role agents and merchants have played in driving the acceptance and widespread use of MoMo across the country.
Held under the theme “Celebrating the Power of Partnership and Service Excellence,” the ceremony brought together key stakeholders for an evening of recognition, music, and networking.
Mr. Ali described MoMo agents and merchants as the backbone of Ghana’s digital financial ecosystem, noting that they connect millions of users to essential financial services on a daily basis. He said the Mobile Money platform, which began 16 years ago as a simple service for money transfers and airtime purchases on basic phones, has evolved into a comprehensive lifestyle and financial empowerment tool.
According to him, the MoMo vision has expanded beyond convenience to focus on financial inclusion, improved financial literacy, and the creation of an economy where digital payments, savings, investments, and credit are accessible to all.
“We remain committed to working closely with our partners to advance digital solutions for the benefit of Ghana, and we are proud of the consistency, innovation, integrity, and leadership demonstrated by our agents and merchants,” he said.
Mr. Ali also commended the Bank of Ghana for providing the regulatory leadership that has enabled the mobile money industry to grow and transform the national economy.
Adding his voice, MTN’s Area Sales Manager for the South West Business, Mr. Prince Owusu Nyarko, attributed the industry’s progress to the collective efforts of customers, regulators, financial service providers, fintech innovators, aggregators, agents, merchants, and other partners.
He noted that their combined contributions have helped expand access to financial services, deepen financial inclusion, and improve the quality of life for millions of Ghanaians.
The awards ceremony reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to strengthening partnerships and recognising excellence as it continues to drive Ghana’s digital finance agenda.
