Residents of Nkroful Old Town and the New Site in the Ellembelle District are breathing a sigh of relief after Nguvu Mining Limited reconstructed a collapsed bridge over the River Subre, restoring a vital connection between the two communities.
The bridge, which collapsed about eight months ago, had severely disrupted movement, affecting trade, farming activities and family interactions across both settlements.
The reconstruction, valued at GH¢220,000 and funded through the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, has reopened a key route that residents say is essential to daily life and local development.
The project was supervised by Mr Francis Kwaw Mensah, also known as Honourable Bruce, Assembly Member for the Nkroful Enlunlibo Electoral Area, who oversaw its implementation on behalf of the community.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr Edmund Kofi Eshun, Social Responsibility Superintendent of ADAMUS Resources under Nguvu Mining Limited, said the intervention was necessary to restore social and economic cohesion between the two communities, especially after resettlement activities in the area.
He explained that the split between Nkroful Old Town and the New Site had made the bridge a crucial link for families, particularly during cultural events such as funerals.
“When the bridge is not functional, it disconnects families and makes it difficult for them to support one another during important occasions,” he said.
Mr Eshun also noted that the bridge serves as an important route for schoolchildren, adding that its collapse had previously exposed them to dangerous conditions, especially during the rainy season when the risk of drowning was high.
He said the reconstruction was therefore aimed at eliminating safety risks and improving mobility for all users.
With the new bridge in place, residents can now travel more safely and easily between the two communities, easing movement for traders, vendors and motorists engaged in daily economic activities.
The structure also provides a faster and safer route to nearby health facilities, particularly for emergency cases originating from the New Site.
According to Mr Eshun, the intervention reflects the commitment of Madam Angela List, Chief Executive Officer of Nguvu Mining Limited, to improving living conditions in host communities and ensuring they benefit directly from the company’s operations.
