The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into shock following the sudden death of Nollywood actor and businessman Solomon Akiyesi, who reportedly passed away in his sleep on Sunday.
His death was confirmed on Monday by the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abubakar Yakubu, who said the actor did not wake up after going to bed the previous night.
“Yes, it is true. He died yesterday. He slept and did not wake up. We await further details from the family,” Mr Yakubu told TheCable Lifestyle.
He further disclosed that Akiyesi’s body had been deposited at a morgue in Abuja, where the incident occurred.
Akiyesi was widely known for his roles in Nollywood productions during his active years and also had interests in business outside the film industry.
The news of his passing has sparked shock and grief among colleagues, fans, and industry stakeholders, many of whom have taken to social platforms to express condolences and pay tribute to his memory.
