The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is preparing to convene its National Delegates Conference on July 18th and 19th in Greater Accra, bringing together more than 5,500 delegates from across the country.
The event promises to be a critical moment for the party as it focuses on internal reforms, delivering key performance reports, and reinforcing unity ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on July 17th, National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, known as Nana B, highlighted the extensive preparations undertaken to ensure a smooth and productive conference. He underscored the constitutional significance of the gathering, noting that it remains the party’s highest decision-making body under Article 10 of the NPP Constitution.
Nana B emphasized that the conference is not a campaign platform but rather a formal assembly for delegates and stakeholders to review reports from senior party officials and consider important constitutional reform proposals. These reforms, put forward by the Frank Davies Committee, aim to modernize the party’s structure and improve operational efficiency. Should the delegates approve the changes by a two-thirds majority, significant amendments will be made under Article 19 of the party’s constitution.
To accommodate the large turnout, venues such as Anagkazo and UPSA have been secured well in advance, with logistics and accommodation carefully planned for the thousands of participants expected.
Addressing rumors about the involvement of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Nana B clarified that the former president’s absence is due to a prior international engagement, not a request to postpone the conference. Plans have been made for his virtual participation, ensuring his message will reach delegates during the event.
Regarding the schedule for the party’s presidential primaries, Nana B dispelled false reports that the conference would set a new date. He reaffirmed that the National Council had already fixed the primaries for January 31, 2026, following recommendations from the Frank Davies Committee. This decision is in line with constitutional provisions and is not subject to debate at the conference.
On concerns about internal party divisions, particularly related to the ongoing flagbearer race, Nana B acknowledged tensions but described them as natural during election seasons. He stressed that resolving the primaries fairly and promptly is essential to restoring unity and discipline within the party.
Nana B also rejected claims that party leadership is attempting to impose a preferred candidate, emphasizing the democratic nature of the party’s large delegate base. He assured that the executives are committed to maintaining a level playing field to bring all factions together post-election.
Concluding, Nana B called on all party members to use the conference as an opportunity to regroup and focus on winning the next elections, stating, “The time for internal wrangling is over. This conference is about positioning the NPP for victory and building a stronger, united future.”
