The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to elect its presidential candidate for the 2026 general elections on January 31, 2026, as part of a broader effort to align its internal structures with ongoing constitutional reforms.
This date was confirmed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, following the National Council’s adoption of a proposal from the constitution review committee. The decision, according to him, does not require endorsement from the national delegates conference, as the Council has the authority to finalize such timelines.
“The date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries,” Koduah stated, noting that a planning committee has already been formed to oversee proposed constitutional amendments.
In a related development, a nine-member committee, led by former Bekwai Member of Parliament Joseph Osei Owusu, has been tasked with organizing the party’s national delegates conference scheduled for July 2025. This conference will serve as a platform to deliberate on and adopt further constitutional reforms recommended by the review committee.
The NPP’s internal restructuring comes as the party prepares to strengthen its democratic processes ahead of the 2026 general elections.
