The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has relieved Nana Kusi Baaye II of his duties as Chief of Ohwim following accusations of misconduct, including illegal mining and unauthorized land sales.
During a session of the Kumasi Traditional Council on February 24, 2025, concerns were raised about Nana Kusi Baaye II’s conduct during his 16-year tenure. Key allegations included violating the Great Oath, engaging in extortion, and selling lands without proper authorization.
What began as an inquiry into his use of the Asantehene’s Great Oath escalated when additional accusations surfaced. Members of his own royal family testified against him, alleging that he sold family lands under false pretenses and facilitated illegal mining.
After reviewing the evidence, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II ruled that Nana Kusi Baaye II be stripped of his title, reinforcing his commitment to preserving traditional values and protecting the Golden Stool’s integrity.
Despite the ruling, the former chief insists he is innocent of the allegations.
